FuelWide

Where every FuelWide number comes from

20 publications feed this site. Below is each one: who publishes it, what it covers, how often it is issued, how we retrieve it, the licence it carries, and — the part most data sites leave out — whether you are allowed to reuse it.

28 of our 110 markets come from official government, regulator or open-data publications; the remaining 82 come from named commercial and aggregated sources. Every page states which one it is using.

Three rules we hold ourselves to

  1. A number never outranks its source. If a publisher issues monthly figures, we do not describe them as today’s. Page titles, headings and structured data all read the same cadence from the same record.
  2. We do not pass on what we were not given. 8 of these 20 sources are shown on our pages with credit but excluded from the API, which answers 451 for them and names the publisher to ask.
  3. A gap is shown as a gap.Where a figure is missing, missing is what the page says. We do not fill a hole with a regional average and print it under a country’s name.

Country and state prices

The averages behind every country, state and region page. Each publisher sets its own reference period and schedule — a figure is never presented as fresher than the body that issued it says it is.

Our note
Display permitted, redistribution not. Tankerkönig's terms of access state that passing on datasets obtained through their services is not permitted (“Die Weitergabe der Datensätze … ist nicht gestattet”), which overrides the CC BY 4.0 notice shown on creativecommons.tankerkoenig.de. Registered first as cleared on the strength of that CC BY badge and corrected on reading the terms — the mistake is recorded here because assuming a right from branding is exactly what audit C-2 was about. Germany sells E5 and E10 as separate grades at separate prices; E10 is the standard 95-octane blend the EU bulletin reports for Germany and is what maps to petrol95. The two are never averaged together — a driver chooses between them.

Our note
OGL v3.0, so redistribution and derivatives are permitted with the credit line above. Access additionally carries a Fair Use Policy that the licence does not: poll no more often than every 5 minutes on average, present prices without filtering or reordering that favours a supplier, do not restate the publisher's timestamp as our own, and give readers a route to report a wrong price. The first three are properties of scripts/fetch-stations-uk.mjs; the fourth is owed by the station panel and is why this stays 'in_review' rather than 'cleared'.

Open licensing questions

8 sources we hold but may not redistribute, and the question outstanding on each. None of this is a technical limit — the data is ingested, dated and rendered. What is missing is a written answer from the publisher.

  • GlobalPetrolPrices.com69 marketsNot yet reviewed

Asking: On what terms may FuelWide redistribute GlobalPetrolPrices figures for 69 markets through a public API, bulk export and embeddable widgets, with per-market attribution — and what would that licence cost?

Would unlock: 69 markets across Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania in the API, the OpenAPI spec, the exports and the widgets — the single largest unlock available. It is also the whole of the API's non-European coverage.

  • OpenVan.camp13 marketsNot yet reviewed

Asking: May FuelWide redistribute OpenVan.camp's aggregated European figures, and can OpenVan confirm that the underlying national sources permit onward redistribution?

Would unlock: 14 non-EU European markets — Norway, Switzerland, the Balkans, the micro-states — in the API and exports. The second question matters more than the first: an aggregator can only pass on what it holds.

  • AAA51 state-level averages (50 states and DC), plus 467 metro areasNot yet reviewed

Asking: May FuelWide redistribute AAA's state and metro averages through a free public API and bulk download, with the credit line "State and metro averages: AAA", or is a licence required?

Would unlock: 51 state-level averages and 467 metro averages in the API, the OpenAPI spec, the exports and the widgets. Today they appear only on our own pages.

  • American Petroleum InstituteAll 50 US states and DCNot yet reviewed

Asking: May FuelWide redistribute API's state motor fuel tax table, or only publish figures derived from it? The rates are facts of public law; it is the compilation we are asking about.

Would unlock: The per-state tax table in the API and exports. Derived figures — tax share of pump price, rankings — are already published with attribution.

  • Bundeskartellamt — Markttransparenzstelle für Kraftstoffe, republished by TankerkönigWired up, awaiting first deliveryNot yet reviewed

Asking: Tankerkönig's terms forbid passing on datasets obtained through the API. Does that extend to publishing individual forecourt prices on our own site (which we read as display, not Weitergabe), and is there a route — via Tankerkönig or MTS-K directly as a registered Informationsdienst — to redistribute through a public API with attribution?

Would unlock: Roughly 14,000 German forecourts in the API, the OpenAPI spec, the exports and the widgets — the largest station feed in Europe. Display on our own pages does not depend on this answer; the API does.

  • Fuelo.net2,020 forecourtsNot yet reviewed

Asking: May FuelWide redistribute Fuelo.net's Bulgarian chain price lists through a free public API with attribution? The site publishes no licence, so we default to display only.

Would unlock: 2,020 Bulgarian sites and 28 provincial averages in the API — flagged as chain-national rather than per-forecourt, as they are on our pages.

  • Goriva.si539 forecourtsNot yet reviewed

Asking: May FuelWide redistribute Goriva.si station prices through a free public API with attribution? The site publishes no licence, so we default to display only.

Would unlock: 538 Slovenian forecourts in the API. They already appear on our Slovenian pages.

  • UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (operated by VE3 Global Limited)Wired up, awaiting first deliveryIn review

Asking: Internal, not external: the OGL v3.0 licence already permits redistribution. What remains is Fuel Finder's Fair Use Policy, whose fourth condition — giving readers a route to report a wrong price — is owed by our station panel and not yet built.

Would unlock: Every UK forecourt in the API, from the statutory scheme all UK sites report to within 30 minutes of a price change. The strongest feed on the site.

If you need one of these datasets, the publisher is named above and on its own card — licence it from them directly. If you are one of these publishers, we would like to hear from you.

Citing FuelWide

You are welcome to quote figures from this site. Credit the publisher named on the page you took the number from, alongside us — their licence asks for that, and a FuelWide credit on its own does not satisfy it. For a derived figure of ours — a ranking, a median, a Fair Price Score — Source: FuelWide with a link is enough.

Developers: every API response carries its own attribution string. Reproduce that. The machine- readable spec is at /openapi.json.
