Data sources & methodology
39 of our 111 markets come from official government, regulator or open-data publications; the remaining 72 come from named commercial and aggregated sources. Every page states which one it is using.No number here is crowdsourced, and no estimate is presented as a measurement. Every figure carries its update date and its source, and every page links back here. Where data is slower, narrower or secondary, we label it that way rather than rounding it up to “official”.
We publish 113 markets (111 countries plus the USA and Canada) and 45,982 station prices from national reporting feeds in 6 countries, plus 886 Bulgarian stations priced at their chain's national list price. Everywhere else the figure is a national, state or metro average and is labelled as one. 148 of our 359 city pages show a measured local price — the others show the national average and say so.

Where the numbers come from
Each source has its own publisher, licence, publishing schedule and reuse terms, and each is recorded rather than described — including the ones we are not permitted to pass on, and why. Every price page links to the record behind its own figure.

The FuelWide Fair Price Score (0–100) answers “is this a good price right now?”. For US areas it is longitudinal, computed from that area's own history: position within the 52-week price range plus the move against the 4-week average. For European countries and other regions it is cross-sectional: purely where the market ranks among the 42 European markets — or its own region's markets — that we track this week. The score compares averages: it does not predict future prices and it is not station-level advice.

Citing FuelWide
Our own derived figures — medians, rankings, tax shares and score components — are free to reuse with a link. For a price, credit the body that published it as well: the licences ask for that, and a FuelWide credit alone does not satisfy them. The credit line for each source is on the sources page, and every API response carries its own.
What we cannot pass on is a right we do not hold. The European Commission bulletin, the EIA, Statistics Canada, gov.uk and the national station feeds all permit reproduction with acknowledgement, and those markets are available through the API. Markets sourced from commercial vendors and aggregators are shown on our pages with attribution but are excluded from the API and from bulk downloads until their terms have been reviewed (currently AAA, American Petroleum Institute, GlobalPetrolPrices.com, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (METI), Japan, Ministry of Finance Malaysia, via data.gov.my, Consumer Council, Hong Kong (DATA.GOV.HK), Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), New Zealand, Comisión Reguladora de Energía (CRE), México, CPC Corporation, Taiwan (state-owned), Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (ANP), Brazil, Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Mipymes (MICM), Dominican Republic, RECOPE, prices set by ARESEP (Costa Rica), Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC), Papua New Guinea, Gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Calédonie (DIMENC), OpenVan.camp, Direção-Geral de Energia e Geologia (Portugal), Goriva.si, KARAI (karai.bg)). If you need those figures, licence them from the publisher directly.
