How much gas will my road trip cost?
Enter where you're starting and where you're going, pick your car or type its mpg, and set how full the tank is. FuelWide plans the real driving route, works out how many miles you drive in each state, and prices the gas you burn in each one at that state's latest AAA average — then adds the stops that save you the most.
How is the trip cost calculated?
FuelWide plans the real driving route, splits it into the countries — and in the US, the states — it passes through, and prices the fuel used in each at that place's latest published average (European Commission, AAA, U.S. EIA, Statistics Canada and other registered sources). Verified vignette tariffs are added on top. Every figure in the result shows its source, date and confidence.
How does FuelWide find the cheapest places to refuel?
It compares two plans for the same trip: stopping wherever the tank runs low, and stopping at the cheapest places within your range — including individual forecourts with published prices near the route in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Bulgaria. The difference is the saving. If the difference is too small to be worth changing plans for (under about $3 or 3%), FuelWide says the route is already close to the cheapest option instead of inventing a saving.
Are tolls included?
Motorway vignettes are included for Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland and Bulgaria, taken from each operator's own price list. Distance-based tolls such as those in France, Italy or on US turnpikes are shown as unavailable rather than estimated, and the total is marked as the known cost.
Does it work for electric cars?
Yes. Electric trips use the same engine with consumption in kWh/100 km, a charging plan that stops at around 80%, and residential electricity estimates where we hold them. Public and rapid charging usually cost more; FuelWide doesn't have charger tariffs yet and says so on every EV result.
How accurate are the prices?
They are the latest published averages and forecourt reports, not live pump prices. Station prices come from national price-reporting feeds; national and state figures are averages. Your actual cost depends on the stations you choose, traffic and driving style.
