Prices in the big metros

Six ways to pay less at the pump near you

None of these need an app, a subscription or a loyalty scheme you don't already have.

01

Skip the first station off the highway

Forecourts at an interstate ramp price for captive drivers. Two minutes further into town is routinely 20–30¢ a gallon cheaper — the map below shows both, so you can see the gap before you commit.

02

Supermarkets and clubs beat brands

Grocery and warehouse-club pumps run fuel close to cost to bring you inside. On identical fuel that is usually the cheapest number within a few miles of you.

03

Fill up mid-week

Retail prices are commonly raised for the weekend and eased back early in the week, so a Monday or Tuesday tank tends to beat a Friday one on the same forecourt.

04

Don't buy premium you don't need

Unless your owner's manual requires high-octane, premium buys no extra economy or power — just a 60–90¢ per gallon premium over regular. Check the manual once and stop guessing.

05

Check the diesel spread

Diesel and gasoline move on different cycles, so the station with the cheapest regular is often not the cheapest diesel. If you run diesel, compare on diesel.

06

Know what fair looks like

Your state or country average is the yardstick. Once you know it, a forecourt price reads instantly as a bargain or a rip-off — which is what the number at the top of this page is for.

Frequently asked questions

What are the gas prices near me right now?

FuelWide detects your area and shows the current average regular and diesel price at the top of this page — US state and metro figures come from AAA's daily survey, national figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Nationally, US regular averages $4.16 per gallon and diesel $5.97 (week of 2026-09-07). Individual stations vary above and below that average.

How do I find the cheapest gas near me?

Tap “Gas stations near me” on the map below to see every station around you, then apply the rules that reliably work: supermarket and warehouse-club stations undercut premium brands by 20–40¢ a gallon, stations one or two exits off the interstate are cheaper than the ones at the ramp, and paying cash or using the chain's own loyalty card saves another 5–10¢ at many brands.

What is the cheapest state for gas right now?

Indiana has the cheapest regular gas in the country at $3.58/gal, and California the most expensive at $5.93/gal (AAA, 2026-09-11). The full table is above.

Are these live station-by-station prices?

The headline number is your area's official average, updated daily to weekly depending on the country. Station locations, brands and opening hours on the map are live. Live station-by-station prices are rolling out per country where governments publish open feeds — we never show made-up prices.

Why does the station on my corner charge more than the average?

An average blends hundreds of stations across a whole state or metro. Rent, delivery distance, local competition and whether a site is branded or independent easily move a single forecourt 30–50¢ a gallon either side of it. Use the average to know whether a price is fair, and the map to find the cheaper site nearby.

Does this work outside the United States?

Yes. FuelWide covers the US (all 50 states), Canada — regular averages C$1.76/L nationally — and 111 countries worldwide, so “gas prices near me” works whether you're in Texas, Toronto, Sofia or Tokyo, in local currency and units.
